The Delta Flyer Class is a Starfleet auxiliary support craft attached normally to starships and stations to be used for short term multipurpose away missions. This class is designated as a runabout type vessel as it mainly built to be operated by more then two people for longer term missions duration.

The Delta Flyer Class was first designed by Tom Paris while he served as chief flight control officer on board the USS Voyager. It wasn’t until 2375 that his design was placed in to production with aide from other members of the Voyager crew.

The original class specifications included an ultra-aerodynamic tetraburnium alloy hull, retractable warp nacelles, parametallic hull plating, unimatrix shielding, and a Borg-inspired weapon system, including photonic missiles. The sublight propulsion technology included pop-out impulse thrusters, which gave the ship greater sublight speeds. This class was a successful aide to the Voyager crew in its later years of journeying through the Delta Quadrant. When the vessel returned to Earth in 2377 Starfleet had already started to assemble its own versions of the class. By 2380 a majority of ships in the fleet were outfitted with one Delta Flyer class runabout.
