Background
Early Life
Theresa Hawkins barely remembers what the galaxy was like before the Borg War. She was born to a Marine officer and his wife, Aaron and Daniella, on Starbase 611. She spent the first few years of her life on the base with her family. Then the Borg came.
Teresa and her family were sent back to Earth for their own protection. She lived on her Grandmother's farm in Minnesota. The environment was new and refreshing to the young girl who use to spend her days couped up on a Starbase. As the years went by she learned to call the farm home.
Theresa was rebellious and independent child and teenager. Her grandparents taught her how to survive in the woods so whenever she could Theresa would disappear for days at a time, exploring the surrounding caves and woods. On occasion her brother would go with her, but Theresa would get annoyed when Peter tried to protect her from things that were â€too dangerous for a little girlâ€.
When she was sixteen Theresa's father came home for the first time in five years. Aaron was pleased to find out that his son was joining the Marines. When asked if she would follow in her father and brother's footsteps Theresa told her father she wasn't planning on joining the Marines or Starfleet. She didn't know if military life would suite her.
While her father and grandmother tried and failed to convince her being in Starfleet, or the Marines as her father wanted, wouldn't ruin her life, Peter took a different approach. He supported her decision. Then he would invite her to visit him at the Academy. Every weekend for two months Theresa was in San Francisco visiting her brother. Then she would show up without being invited. She fell in love with the Academy.
Starfleet Academy
At seventeen she applied to and was accepted into Starfleet Academy. During her first year at the Academy Theresa was able to spend time with her brother. Peter helped Theresa's adjust to Academy life, but he didn't have to do much. Theresa adapted to cadet life rather easily. Her rebellious streak didn't end simply because she was a cadet. She broke curfew on several occasions and was caught after hours signing in nightclubs.
Later in her first year Theresa met fellow cadets Inra Romi of Betazed, Movar Krax of Andoria, and Zander Hossa from Luna. The four young cadets had a few things in common. The most obvious was their willingness to skirt the rules. Theresa wasn't the worst offender in the group, but she did her fair share of mischief. During her second year the groups extracurricular activities got all of them, save Theresa, booted from the Academy. Theresa's father called in a few favors to keep her from being kicked out. He also gave her a telling off she still hasn't forgotten. This incident put a strain on the father-daughter relationship and ended Theresa's friendship with her fellow trouble makers.
Her time at the Academy was brief. Like many cadets during the Borg War her training was accelerated to help Starfleet with their manpower shortage. Theresa proved to be an above average student with an acumen for communications and diplomacy. She was also a member of the track team.
Early Career
After graduating from the Academy, without further incident, Theresa was assigned to the USS Prometheus. The Prometheus was under the command of an old friend of her father's, Captain Katrina Mitchell. Captain Mitchell, however, didn't show her any favoritism. She assigned Theresa as the communications officer on the gamma shift. While Captain Mitchell knew all about Theresa, she wanted the young woman to prove to her shipmates that she wasn't a screw up.
Towards the end of the war Theresa became involved with shipmate Stefan Madsen. Madsen, a medic with the Marine detachment on the ship, and Theresa hit it off instantly. Their relationship was purely physical for almost a year before Peter and Theresa decided to see if they had anything else in common other than sex. It turned out that they did and in 2398, days after the war ended, the two were married on the bridge of the Prometheus.
After the war was over Stefan and Theresa both took time off to evaluate their futures. Stefan had no intention of returning to the Marines or Starfleet for that matter. He decided to finish his medical training at a civilian facility. Theresa had other options available to her. She had an offer to become a correspondent with the Federation news service and an offer from Jennings Industries to manage their public relations department. Before she could make a decision Theresa discovered she was pregnant. Several months later Christian Madsen was born.

Interests
Theresa is an avid runner and an accomplished equestrian. She is also a talented singer and actress in her off time. Her mother encouraged her singing while she was growing up. Theresa didn't pick up acting until she was assigned to the USS Prometheus. Her CO, Captain Katrina Mitchell, used acting on the holo-suite as a way to get to know her crew and as a way to relive stress. It was there that she found a love for acting and began performing in holo-suite and theatrical productions on the ship.
