Artim is a Ba'ku male who had grown up as one of the first children on the Ba'ku homeworld by his father Sojef. During 2375 he was part of many of his people who escaped from being relocated off their homeworld with aide from Starfleet Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the USS Enterprise-E. During this time he became good friends with the ship's android second officer, Lieutenant Commander Data.

He was made a Ba'ku Elder in 2400, one of the youngest members to sit on the council. In 2401 he welcomed Captain Zack Marshall-Bennet with his "godmother", Anij to Ba'ku after he took command of Deep Space One (DS1: "Back To The Final Frontier").
