The United Federation of Planets Department of the Interior is the governmental department which is tasked in maintaining all Federation internal affairs. This includes protecting and assisting Federation citizens living in Federation territory which in itself includes policing, Federation security, immigration, the prison service, and matters of citizenship. The Department of the Interior works to manage offenders in order to protect the public and reduce re-offending, to keep secure the borders of the Federation, prevent abuse of immigration laws and manage migration to the benefit of the Federation. The main objective of the department is to ensure people feel safe in their homes and daily lives.

The Department of the Interior is run by the United Federation of Planets Secretary of the Interior.
