Background

With the USS Enterprise NX 1701 - F launched in 2400 and successfully serving Starfleet for three years, the order was given for the second starship to be developed and for construction to begin in 2405.

History

It was decided that as Starfleet was re-exploring the Alpha and Beta Quadrants again, that the ships constructed as Enterprise classes would be named after Stafleet famous crafts that had become legends in their time.

The lead developer position of the project was first offered to Captain Rownen McKensie (XO of USS Voyager NCC 74656 - A). McKensie had turn the position down and command of the project was assigned to Captain Rachel Hernandez in 2403. Once the craft had been constructed the captain would assume command of it.

The Columbia Development Project was assigned to San Francisco Shipyards where construction of the next Enterprise class starship would start "Officially" in 2405. The vessel would be launched by 2410.

Secret History

In reality the ship was undergoing quick construction at utopia planitia shipyards as part of a secret project per an executive order from the fleet CnC.Unknown to captain Hernandez at San Francisco shipyards she is currently overseeing a project build of a basic enterprise class spaceframe only one of three known to exist. The aim of the project is the in progress development of a enterprise subclass biased toward combat of which this spaceframe will be the prototype. For additional information see USS Venture Star.
