Personality: Quiet to strangers and all too verbose to friends, White is a study in defiance of the aging process, steadfastly refusing to act her age. She sometimes seems to be enjoying a joke made at the expense of the world, and has stopped caring what others think of her. She believes that most people are generally good, that with hard work and cooperation a better world is possible, and she is often kind and compassionate, unobtrusively committing small acts of kindness towards friends and strangers alike. She is sharply critical of those who commit acts that are poisonous towards this type of atmosphere, calling such behaviour "asshole syndrome." How she can reconcile this philosophy with working closely with Ross is unknown. Her one vice is gossip, and she has never quite been able to grasp the concept of privacy, though she has learned to control her curiosity.

History:
Emma is the only child of Adam and Huan White, both civilian scientists working with Starfleet's science department. Her early years were spent in Hong Kong until she and her family moved to Spacedock in 2359 to continue their work. She spent the rest of her childhood on the station, and from and early age indicated that she wished to become a Starfleet officer.
Emma's childhood was somewhat troubled. Her parents worked long hours and she had difficulties making friends. She became somewhat introverted, often spending her time reading. Emma began to show an interest in comptuers around her early teens, and spent significant amounts of time on the nets from then on.
She applied to Starfleet Academy in 2372 and was rejected on the grounds that her focus in school had been too narrow. When the Dominion War started in late 2373, she re-applied and was accepted for admission in 2374. Her parents were concerned about her decision to join Starfleet during a war, but she had reached the age of concent and there was nothing they could do to keep her out against her wishes.
Emma was still somewhat reclusive during her time at the Academy, being somewhat invisible socially and not making many friends. Despite this, she did well in her studies, and appeared to be headed onto a bright career after the war. Unfortunately for her future, she was discovered hacking into the school's security feed and watching the other students. She admitted that she had been doing this for some time and was very nearly expelled. Once again, man power shortages caused by the war saved her and she was let off with a demerit from the Commandant's office. She was not allowed to walk across stage and recieve her diploma with her classmates upon graduation.
She had hoped to be assigned to a computer research laboratory on Vulcan after graduation, but her demerit killed that dream and she was assigned to the USS Laffey- a warship with limited scientific and computer facilities that had been deployed to patrol the backwater post of the Reayan Sector.
She spent the next few months doing her job mechanically, and with no passion or interest. About half a year after arriving on the Laffey, she was again discovered hacking into security feeds to watch other crewmembers by the Laffy's Chief of Intelligence. She was given a choice between a court marshal or joining the Intelligence Department as a computer security officer; she chose the latter. It was while working in the Laffy's Intelligence office that she first met Ross Taben, then a young Ensign. She claims not to have liked him very much at first, though it has been noted that they were both similarly quiet and withdrawn at the time, possibly leading to their later friendship. She does not publicly discuss the specifics of their current relationship except to emphasize that it is in no way romantic.
In 2381, Ross- who had left the Laffey in 2380 for a covert assignment- requested that Emma be transfered to his department onboard the USS Thunderchild. It was here that thier frindship really began to grow, though it never became romantic. She would stay by his side, in one capacity or another, for the rest of her Starfleet career, resigning along side him in 2398. She does not publicly discuss the specifics of their current relationship except to emphasize that it is in no way romantic.
OOC Background
Emma White was created by another player on the USS Laffey game in 2000. She was largely unused for the next five years until the Chris Daniels co-opted her from the Laffey to bring her to the USS Redemption game, which promptly folded. Chris liked having a relatively optimistic NPC sidekick around to contrast with Ross' dark cynicism who could comment on his anti-social tendencies, so he kept her by Ross' side when he transferred his characters to FE.
