Jacen Parami served aboard the USS Valkyrie for the majority of the Borg War. In 2388 he was serving as Executive Officer; by the 2390s, casualties and reassignments saw him promoted to Commanding Officer.

In 2406 he still retained his command, when the USS Enterprise-F discovered one of his pilots - his daughter, Takara Edden-Parami - adrift after being disabled on a routine patrol. It soon emerged that the ship had gone missing; the Enterprise was deployed to find her.

Before the Borg War, Jacen had previously served as a Fighter Pilot, Security Officer, and Intelligence Agent.
