Character History

Childhood

The offspring of Human/Betazoid Jacen Parami and his Risan wife Yorzi Edden-Parami, Takara is one half of twins. Born in 2381 - before the outbreak of the Borg War - Kara and her brother Alex had a mischevious childhood, using the (diluted) empathic abilities inherited from their father to wreak havoc aboard the various Starbases where Jacen had accepted "safe" assignments during their early years.

However, with the Borg invasion of several of the Federation's allies in 2385, Jacen Parami was recalled to active duty, and assigned to the USS Cambrian - an Akira Class vessel - as the ship's Strategic Operations Officer, overseeing and coordinating the operations of the Fighter Group and Marine Company aboard. After the death of the incumbant Commander Air Group, Jacen stepped into the role; his wife and children were moved to Earth to live with Jacen's grandparents, where they would (in theory) be safe.

Early Career

By the time Takara was old enough to follow in her father's footsteps and fight on behalf of the Federation, the Borg War had ended. In 2400 the Federation declared victory, and with some sense of order restored to the galaxy, Takara felt it was safe to leave home - and her mother - to do her patriotic duty.

In 2404, Kara graduated from Starfleet Academy and Flight School alongside her brother, who had served for two years as an Enlisted crewman on the Flight Deck of their father's ship. Alex had earned himself the nickname "Sundance" (in reference to their father's callsign: "Moondancer"); as wingmen - the latent empathy that existed between them far outweighed the potential downsides to having siblings serving together - Alex and Kara were given the callsigns "Apollo" and "Artemis", after the twin gods of Greek mythology associated with the Sun and Moon respectively.

The duo were assigned directly to the new Star Fighter Command, which had been established a year previously. However, their family connection made prospective unit commanders reluctant to accept them aboard their ships: fortunately, a certain Captain Parami was willing to take them aboard.

Valkyrie & Enterprise

Apollo and Artemis spent nearly three years flying together as Valkyrie Pilots aboard the USS Valkyrie. Takara was always the level-headed one, her brother having inherited the insubordinate attitude and maverick approach to authority that had plagued their father early in his career. Fortunately Takara's steady hand was enough to keep her brother on task, though she was forced to keep him on a short leash.

In 2407, the Valkyrie's patrol route brought her towards the area of space that had once been the Klingon Empire. Alex and Takara were deployed on a routine patrol to gather basic reconnaissance on the region in advance of Starfleet vessels sent to Re-Explore formerly known space. Their patrol came upon a formation of pirate vessels; in the ensuing dogfight, Takara's fighter was damaged to the point where a return flight to the Valkyrie became impossible. She instructed her brother to return to the ship and inform them of her location; an order with which he grudgingly complied.

Fortunately, Takara's fighter was detected by the USS Enterprise-F - one of the ships for whom the Valkyrie was providing reconnaissance. She was brought aboard and, after assisting the crew in their ongoing operations was offered a permenant assignment aboard.

Psychological Profile

Despite being the same age as her twin brother, Takara took after her mother and adopted the role of the responsible elder sibling. As a result she has learned to make the sensible and mature decisions in life, although at times she begrudges her role and become irritated with still having to babysit for her brother despite his age. She has also developed a slightly bossy attitude towards him that has extended into other aspects of her life; some see it simply as an appropriate sense of confidence and superiority from her abilities and rank, while others percieve it as arrogance. A common feature of her performance evaluations is a suggestion that she try to treat the pilots she works with less like family and more like fellow officers.

Takara also harbours concerns that, despite Earth being relatively safe, some harm will befall her mother now that she has "abandoned" her to join Starfleet. Since her reassignment to the Enterprise, the same concerns have extended at times to her father and brother who she believes she has abandoned back on the Valkyrie. Intellectually she knows that this is not the case, but it remains a notable irrational fear.
