Introduction

Jonathan Bradford is a tinkerer, first and foremost. Impulsive and direct, he will take apart anything if he thinks he can get it to work better. Having a bit of a temper, he can get into spats with superiors if he feels that he has the better argument, but he will always put in his best effort and has been known to pull off a miracle or two when he is called upon.

Appearance

Scruffy and unkempt are the best words to describe him. His mind is always working so his appearance is never quite settled. He has shaggy dark brown hair and a beard to go with it. His brown eyes are penetrating when concentrating on a problem and distant when bored. He doesn't spend the most amount of time keeping himself neat and proper, but he won't embarrass himself ... too much.

Personality

Impulsive and driven. He is a hothead that can run his mouth when he is confident and get himself in a lot of trouble when he is wrong. He doesn't give up and doesn't accept that a situation can't be fixed by taking something apart and building it better. He's always tinkering with the machinery around him, wanting to get that last little bit of efficiency out of the device.

He is personable and outgoing, almost too much, coming off a little bit strong with those who are not acquainted with him. He has never been one to have a few close relationships but instead floats from group to group, content really just being alone in the end.

History

Early Life & The Borg War (2381 - 2398)

Born right before the breakout of The War, Jonathan (or Jon as his friends call him) grew up on Earth with two loving parents and two older siblings. His father was a mechanic and his mother was a nurse. Neither one of them got into the fighting, but it has a way of affecting everyone. During the war was when Jon learned the most about being an engineer because his father was well-known for being able to fix anything and get it working again.

A useful skill when rationing started.

He was a middling student, bored out of his mind and never really challenged much. He decided the best place to go was to Starfleet in order to help build back what had been lost.

Aftermath (2398 - Present)

Enrolling at Starfleet Academy right as The War was coming to a close, he obviously chose engineering as his trade and excelled in any area where he was able to put his hands on the machinery. Where he did not do well was in relations with other students and staff, and in keeping his grades up. He barely scrapped by, graduating near the bottom of his class and receiving his assignment aboard the USS Tarawa as a lowly engineer.

It wasn't much, but it was a start.

Away from the structure of the classroom he began to excel in actually doing the work that was needed. While he could be late from time to time and had a tendency to get into shouting matches with his colleagues and superiors, the results could not be denied.

He served well aboard the Tarawa and was promoted to Lieutenant JG shortly before transferring to the new USS Ark Royal, a carrier. While he did not receive a promotion in position, the step up from the Intrepid class USS Tarawa to the Ark Royal class USS Ark Royal was large enough. He never settled into a single discipline within engineering, unlike many of his peers, but instead floated around solving issues where they needed to be solved.

After serving on the Ark Royal for a few years he finally received an offer to serve as the Assistant Chief Engineer on Deep Space 5. He was tasked with overseeing the USS Valiant as well and serves there to this day.
