Chancellor Sovtuj is the current leader of the new Klingon Empire. A formerly mighty warrior, he entered politics when the Klingons joined the Federation during the Borg War. Although he was a serious proponent of cooperation between the Federation and the Klingons, and sat upon the Federation Senate - and later the Federation Council - for many years, he was the catalyst for the Klingons' rescinding of Federation membership.

At present he sits within the reclaimed territory of the Klingon Empire as its single, foremost authority figure. A shrewd diplomat as well as an assertive leader, he is considered balanced and reasonable and a realist when it comes to the best way forward for the Klingon race to survive. He is, however, an ardent Imperialist, and proclaimed before the Klingon's secession that the Federation no longer respected the needs of individual member races enough to be tolerated.
