12th Earth Defence Force Squadron

The 12th Earth Defence Force Squadron, referred to as the "Angry Apes" is one of the more revolutionaries efforts by Starfleet Command to return to a former structure that suggested strength and competence to the entire galaxy. With the decimation that Starfighter Command suffered during the Borg Wars, re-establishing the infrastructure and flexibility fighter squadrons offered was considered important, and the Apes are at the forefront of the efforts to place a fighter squadron in a prominent position of responsibility. With most other squadrons in existence assigned to simple guard duty, the Apes are the first of a new generation of independent fighter squadrons.

They are commanded by Major Joseph Ryan, call-sign 'Edge', and based off Zephyria Base when on ground-duty or with the USS Thunderchild for their use on more extended missions. The Apes and the Thunderchild together present a 'Rapid Response' unit within the Earth Defence Force, to react to any sudden threats that may emerge in the Sol system.
