The Scardia Corporation was a civilian corporation before the war, little is known about how it survived during the war and what it's current incarnation operates as. From what is known, Starfleet had only recently discovered it still existed when a survey probe returned it's data.

Following its discover, all Starfleet vessels had been warned to give the site a wide berth until Starfleet Command could dispatch a vessel suited to the task of checking it out.

In 2405, the SS Starlight and its crew were invited to Scardia Base where Captain Davies was asked to undertake a mission on behalf of the organisation by one Jonathan Jefferson.
