Romulus is a class M planet and the homeworld of the Romulan people and the former capital world of the Romulan Star Empire. A majority of the planet was evacuated to other worlds in 2387 as the Borg invaded Romulan territory.
No expedition to determine the ultimate fate of the Romulan homeworld was launched between the ending of the Borg War up until at least 2408. Many rumors persisted throughout the Federation that the Romulan fleet which remained at Romulus to allow many civilians and government officials to escape to other worlds, outlaying outposts and even Earth was successful in fending off the Borg fleet long enough to prevent Romulus from being an attractable goal for the Borg.
