Sabre Corp
Following the devastating troop losses during the Borg War the Federation’s Marine Corp was absorbed along with several other smaller organizations into a new Federation Mobile Infantry armed service encompassing most planetary based assault and protection duties. This change left a hole the marines filled as starship based special recon and assault troops. Starfleet decided to fill that role again by reactivating a little known corp of special ops called Sabre. Standing for S.pecial A.ssault B.oarding R.econ and E.vasion. Sabre's were to be assigned to outward bound starships on a case by case basis due to the organizations low number of trained available recruits.

The SABRE Detachment assigned to a vessel or station will consist of a single platoon. A single platoon overall holds a maximum number of forty soldiers. However this number will vary among different classes of ships within the fleet. With smaller classes have a minimum number only having twelve soldiers (for example Defiant, Nova and Sabre class ships) and larger vessels carrying the maximum number. The smaller vessels would have their soldiers re-assigned more often as they will be rotated with other experienced soliders depending on the type of mission the vessel is carrying out. However smaller vessels commanding officers can request for entire non specialist SABRE soliders or none at all assigned under their commands.
The platoon has sections within it and is commanded by the SABRE Detachment Commander.
Section One (Non Specialist)
The first Section is the non specialist section filled with soldiers ranking from enlisted ranks of Private to Corporal. Command of this section overall is commanded by the SABRE Detachment Commander. This non specialist section’s personnel are designated for ship-to-ship fighting, shipboard security and to assist in landing forces.
Section Two (Specialist)
The second section is the specialist section. This section would have a minimum of two squads and a maximum number of four squads (this varies depending on the vessel they are assigned to in regards to space and resources, etc).
Each squad consists of six troops (a trooper is a specialist team member/solider who is highly skilled in their field of expertise) all of whom are trained for varied situations and environments. Within each squad there would be at least one troop from the following fields of expertise:
- All Terrain is the field for combat and recon/target acquisition in areas with difficult terrain. Such as Mountainous, Volcanic, Subterrainian, Heavy Jungle and Desert Areas. Sometimes used in conjunction with Aviation unit for "painting cloaked targets"
- Zero G is the field for all combat/recon/rescue activities in any environment with low/high gravity, either planetary or orbital.
- Aviation is the field consisting of shuttle pilots and HAHO (High Altitude High Opening) and HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) skydiving specialists.
- Amphibious is the field in all aspects of water (or any substance with water like properties) based operations. The squad consists of liquid breathing divers, conventional scuba divers and waterborne insertion specialists.
- Mobility is the field in the use of Special Ops vehicles such as Argos. Members of this troop are highly skilled in all aspects of mobility, such as land navigation, driving, alien technology salvage and maintenance.
Squads are manned by a mix and match approach under the mandate of the SABRE Detachment Commander (in conjunction with the ship’s commanding officer). This means each squad can swap in and out personnel from another squad depending on what is needed for any specific operation, this lets our simmers gain specialist training and abilities in every kind of squad.
Chain of Command
- The SABRE Detachment Commander can have a minimum rank of First Lieutenant (1st Lt) and a maximum rank of Major. They are tasked with overall command of the detachment and report to the Commanding Officer (as well as First and Second Officers) of any ship and are ordered to co-ordinate efforts with the Chief of Security. However they are reminded that the Chief Of Security of any vessel/station has final say on all security measures in regards to the safety of the crew and vessel/station.
- The SABRE Detachment Deputy Commander has minimum rank of Second Lieutenant (2nd Lt) and a maximum rank of Lieutenant Major. Their duties are to assists their detachment commander, and take command of entire Sabre Squadron if required, as well as taking temporary operational command of the non specialist section of the detachment if required to do so by their detachment commander.
- The Squad Leader is the designated person in charge of a single squad for the specialist section within the detachment. The Squad leader can be either the Detachment Commander or Detachment Deputy Commander or another high ranking troop. If they’re an officer they must have a minimum rank of Second Lieutenant (2nd Lt) and a maximum rank of First Lieutenant (1st Lt). Only Non Commissioned (enlisted) Officers between the ranks of Staff Sergeant to Sergeant Major may be appointed the position of Squad Leader.
- The Squad Specialist must hold the rank below the Squad Leader (either an officer or an enlisted officer).
- Squad Members hold lower ranks and are trained in basic special covert operations. They will consists of a demolitions expert, paramedic and reconnaissance expert. These members will also be trained in at least one field of speciality.
Other SABRE Corps Positions
- Within each Task Force there is normally an assigned Task Force SABRE Corp Commanding Officer (TFSCCO) who have overall command of every single detachment assigned each vessel or station within that task force. The TFSCCO would be a SABRE Detachment Commander holding the minimum rank of Lieutenant Colonel (Lt. Col) and maximum rank of Colonel (Col). They report directly to the Task Force Commanding Officer, the Fleet Commanding Officer as well as General assigned to their fleet (see below).
- In each fleet of Starfleet there is an assigned General. They can hold the ranks between Brigadier General (Brig), Major General (Maj Gen), and Lieutenant General (Lt Gen). They’re responsible for co-ordinate efforts between each fleet and report to the Fleet Commanding Officer as well as the Field Marshall of the SABRE Corps (see below).
- The overall Commander In Chief of the SABRE Corps falls to the SABRE Field Marshall (SFM). The person who holds the position of SABRE Field Marshall is the overall commander of all military forces in the SABRE corps. The only person they report to is the Starfleet Commander-in-Chief and the Starfleet Deputy Commander-in-Chief. Their navy rank equivalent is near to the Fleet Admiral however this is not the case for the overall Starfleet Chain of Command as they are seen as a Starfleet Division Director and their rank takes effect under the navy rank of Admiral.
Uniforms & Accessories
Uniforms
The field uniforms were designed to give Sabre Soldiers the flexibility to move around easily during everyday assignments. Specialised uniforms have also been created for environments such as desserts, jungles, underwater, etc. The belt of the field uniforms has one dagger for close hand to hand combat, with holsters for type two phasers and a tricorder. Body armour is also etched in to the jackets and shirts of the uniform. The dress uniform for the Sabre Soldiers is a variant on the standard Starfleet dress uniform.Accessories

Out of Character Definitions
What all this hopefully means is FE's Sabre unit will be a highly flexible, superbly trained fighting force, ready to be utilised by SF in its relatively weakened state within the FE timeline.
