There have been two Federation starships to be named Defiant since 2375.
NCC 74205-A
The Defiant-A was orignally named the USS São Paulo with registry of NCC 75633. However Starfleet gave special dispensation for the vessel's change in name. It was commanded orignally by Captain Benjamin Sisko in the final battle in the Dominion War.
In 2376 under the command of Commander Elias Vaughn the vessel went on a six month exploration of the Gamma Quadrant.
During the Borg War command of the vessel was handed to Captain Sisko as he led Federation Allied forces against the Borg Invasions of the Bajoran system. The system had been evaded twice but on both occassions successfully defended. The Defiant-A was heavily damaged and was destroyed by the Borg.
NCC 74205-B
