Elizabeth Malone is the Communications Director for the Stark for the Federation Presidential Campaign. A former journalist and war correspondent during the Borg Conflict, Malone is also a seasoned political aide, and considered to be one of the foremost experts on the shiftings of the Federation Council outside of those who themselves sit on it.

Background

Elizabeth Malone was born the younger child of Geoffrey Malone and Anna Hatcher, a Hovercar Mechanic and a Schoolteacher respectively living in Boston. Growing up on utopian Earth, Malone was brought up with strong ideals and educated to have a firm sense of right and wrong. Her elder brother Andrew seemed set to follow in their mother's footsteps as a schoolteacher, but Elizabeth herself grew up holding a desire to change the universe, and to improve it. The outbreak of the Borg War increased this; in her teenaged years she developed an interest in politics, but mostly found herself disagreeing with the status quo and the Federation establishment.

She went to the University of Berkeley to study History, where she was made a Master of Arts. There she also became involved in journalism, within two years rising to be the editor of the University's student paper. With a quick wit and a sharp intellect, Malone established herself as a thorn in the side of the educational establishment, ever unwilling to let any issue slide and ensuring that everyone could read both the truth, and her own critique of whatever subject she chose to focus on.

It was also here that Elizabeth met Kevin Jackson, a law student with as much of an idealistic streak as her. The two got on famously, and were married shortly before they left university - a timing not entirely surprising with the birth of their son, Matthew, a few brief months later.

Upon graduation Malone was offered a job at the Federation Tribune as a columnist. Within a month she had arm-wrestled her editor to grant her to act as a War Correspondent, being one of the only journalists daring enough to volunteer to rush out to the front lines and risk her own life. But Malone's sense of civic duty and distrust of the administration meant that she was intent on either ensuring that the Federation's soldiers were being respected and treated properly, or ensuring that the entire Federation knew what Starfleet was doing to their defenders.

Over the ten years Malone worked as a War Correspondent, she threw herself wholeheartedly into her work. She developed a reputation for being just as willing as any Starfleet officer to charge to the front line, and many cases where troops were sacrificed or were not receiving the necessary supplies, resources, or support were all lovingly headlined in the Tribune courtesy of Malone. She won two Pulitzers for her articles, the first regarding the repelling of the Borg Invasion of Darek III, the other for the article she wrote over the three days in a shuttle at the Battle of Sol.

But whilst the War did wonders for Malone's career and reputation, it caused the implosion of her family life. Her son Matthew was brought up more by her husband Kevin than she herself, who would only see him a few times a year on her travels. In 2395, Kevin filed for divorce, and Elizabeth didn't even show up for the court case, simply filling in papers and sending them back from the front line.

As such, when the war ended, Malone decided she no longer needed to throw herself so whole-heartedly into work far away from home. Not through guilt of her own actions, but rather believing them to not be as necessary as they once were, she retired from journalism, moving to San Francisco, Matthew now living with her. Through contacts developed in the War, she fell in with an electoral campaign for the Councillor of Sirius on the Federation Council. Working as the Communications Director, Malone displayed a natural aptitude for politics, and wrote some of the speeches considered to be directly responsible for Wyatt's successful election.

She spent the next six years as the Communications Director for Councillor Wyatt of Sirius. Whilst primarily responsible for handling his public image, Malone also became his primary port of call in any issues requiring the management of the Council's own internal politics. Quickly she became an expert in the dealings in the corridors and halls of the Council, elevating Councillor Wyatt's own strength to a degree most political experts agreed he was not competent enough to have either earned or maintain.

It seemed Wyatt knew this as well, for in 2405 he chose to not run for re-election. Malone was rapidly headhunted by a menagerie of political operatives all clamouring for her expertise as a Council genius and a speechwriter. But it was to the surprise of very few people that she ultimately decided to join the Presidential Campaign of Alexander Stark, a move which would allow her to attack the Jellico Administration at her leisure, a hobby she had long held but could now indulge with a good deal more financial backing and political protection.
