History

A Birth and a Tragedy

Bryan Cash was born in a small Minnesota town in the year 2219. When he was eight years old, his parents were killed in a shuttle accident, leaving Bryan was devastated. After floating around the orphanage system for a few years, a living relative was finally found. Bryan went to live with his Great-Uncle: Admiral George Cash, who had previously been on a deep space exploration mission in the Beta Quadrant.

Admiral George Cash was a older, strict, military-man, and Bryan's life was not all fun and games. The Admiral made Bryan live his life like he was in the military and pressured him to join Starfleet when he came of age. Bryan resented his uncle for this and grew up a very bitter and lonely little boy. He attended Xavier Lewis High School in Iowa, and excelled in scientific courses such as biology and mathematics. Bryan was also a member of the high school football team and an avid rugby player.

The Decision

Bryan submitted his application to join Starfleet at age 18. His uncle helped to get the application accepted for early entry. In the Academy, Bryan found an entirely new life away from his uncle, and he studied Terran History and science with incredible zeal. By sheer accident, Bryan discovered his talent for command during a training exercise on Earth. Bryan was the only sophomore cadet ever to lead a team to a victory in the Academy's war game exercises, and as a result was recommended for the Command School.

He graduated 15th in his class of 200. His first post was aboard the USS Eagle as a Relief Navigation Officer, where he served until he was promoted to Lieutenant and reassigned to the USS Exeter as Primary Helm Officer, where he remained for five years.

Reassignment to destiny

Upon the end of the Exeter's five year mission, Bryan was reassigned to the San Fransisco Fleet Yards as a Junior Designer in the Navigation Systems Division, where he was assigned to the design team for the ship that would shape his ultimate destiny: The USS Venture Star.

Bryan started as a Navigation Systems Integrator but quickly moved up until he was Lead Construction Overseer and promoted to Commander. Bryan oversaw the introduction of several key designs and systems into the Venture Star and was very heavily involved in her construction, as well. After the Venture Star's sister ship, the USS Intimidator, was destroyed in a tragic accident on her maiden voyage, the whole Dreadnought Project was going to be scrapped, but Bryan pushed for the project to continue and swore that he could make the remaining prototype work— and work well.

Starfleet Command was impressed by his passionate speech, and gave command of the Venture Star to Bryan along with a promotion to Captain three years later at the Venture Star's launching ceremony.

Approaching the Golden Years and Flashing Forward

Bryan served for more than twenty years aboard the Venture Star and was eventually promoted to Fleet Captain and then to Admiral assigned to Starfleet Command and the triangle sector.

Bryan served with distinction until he learned of the impending decommission of his old command, the Venture Star. Troubled by the impending loss of the great old ship and after being unable to save it from destruction, Bryan hatched a plot with several other former officers of the Venture Star and stole the aging ship from its birth at San Fransisco Fleet Yards. The ship got as far as a distant Klingon Neutral Zone border world— when she was engaged by a Klingon D7 Battlecruiser and supposedly destroyed…

Captain Cash ordered his old friends to abandon ship when it looked like the day was lost. He turned the ship away from the attacker and prepared to jump to warp… at the exact moment he engaged the engines the Klingon ship fired at his engineering section causing an imbalance in the warp core… and the ship jumped into a wormhole.

The vortex cut through space and time, and in a trip that only lasted a few minutes, Captain Cash travelled almost sixty years into the future… He emerged in 2365, his ship floundering, and was soon rescued and brought back to Earth. Initially a sort of semi celebrity in Starfleet and the Federation. Cash found his fame somewhat tiresome with assistance from several Admirals high up in the command Bryan was accepted into a retraining program for older inactive officers. Retaught and reacquainted with Starfleet and 24th-century life, Captain Cash was pressed back into service doing the one thing he did the best: Commanding a starship.

It All Changes Again

Bryan Cash commanded the starship Cairo admirably for many years. The Cairo was responsible for contact with no less then twenty-seven new civilizations in the Beta Quadrant beyond the Klingon Empire when exploration was at its peak. But everything changed on one fateful day in 2382, when the Cairo was recalled along with every ship in Task Force 93.

The Borg were back— and this time things would be different.

The fighting was intense, and by February of that year, the Borg had reached the Qualor System. Task Force 93 fought hard for Qualor, but were soon overwhelmed by the Borg's sheer numbers. Aboard the Cairo, Captain Cash took it upon himself to gather 1300 evacuees from the rapidly-overrun Qualor, and while the rest of the fleet headed for Starbase 565, the Cairo ran from the system as fast as her over-taxed engines could carry her. The Cairo was being pursued by two cubes, and Captain Cash made a mad run for the one place he suspected the Borg could not follow: The Briar Patch, Sector 441.

It was a long and harrowing trip, but the civilian element aboard ship had to be saved. The Cairo's first officer, Justin Entria, volunteered for a final mission with a skeleton crew: the stardrive section of the Cario would hold off the Borg cubes while the saucer escaped into the Briar Patch. It was risky, but everyone aboard the Cairo knew that their options were running out. As the Cairo approached the patch, the saucer was separated while at warp speed. The saucer's inertia carried her into the Briar Patch and to safety, and the stardrive section was never seen or heard from again. The saucer section, heavily damaged, limped slowly through the Patch and eventually came into orbit of the Ba'ku Homeworld. Captain Cash established a permanent orbit for the rapidly-deteriorating saucer, and the refugees were welcomed by the Ba'ku with open arms.

Solitude, standing watch and a desire to know

Captain Cash stayed aboard the remains of his once-great ship and kept an almost-silent watch over the planet, always hoping that his worst fears would never be realized and that the Borg would never return… And they never did.

By late 2400, with an intense longing to see his home and friends again, Captain Cash (who had been rejuvenated by the unique Metaphasic Radiation around the Ba'ku Planet) repaired a small shuttle craft, and journeyed to learn what had become of the Federation. Bryan was welcomed with open arms by the new Federation and Star fleet. Celebrated after his return the refugee from the former "Golden Age" of Starfleet became the poster boy for Federation and Starfleet policies on defence and exploration.

After six months of touring and promoting the rhetoric, Cash grew restless to get back out there and see who all was left. At the request of Fleet Admiral Picard and President Spock, the SRI gave him one of the available last ships to command, the second USS Voyager, hoping his years of seasoned experience in dealing with "unknowns" out in the great black beyond would be an incredible asset.

Going back out there

Captain Cash circa 2378
After a limited amount of runs in and out of the Sol system, Starfleet decided it was time to really have the Re-Exploration Initiative spread its wings and explore. Having decided to pursue a career in the EDF, the former commander of the SRI, Captain Enigma recommended Cash as his replacement. Starfleet seeing the merits of having on of the original "Golden Era" explorers in charge of the much maligned SRI was a good PR move and as such Bryan was named Head of the Starfleet Re-exploration Initiative and promoted to Commodore. On January 3rd of 2401, the first mass exodus of SRI ships took place with Commodore Cash leading the way.

The second year of Cash's command of the SRI brought forth a multitude of changes. He was again promoted to Rear Admiral this time, and received news that additional ships would be assigned to the SRI making it a fully fledged fleet and receiving the 4th fleet designation. Around the same time Cash had come to notice and up and coming officer in the SRI Captain Zack Marshall-Bennet of the newly designated Federation flagship Enterprise .Seeing the potential in the young officer he promoted him to Fleet Captain in charge of the Fourth fleet and his second in command of the SRI.

Disaster and a Decision

The latter half of 2403 brought an end to the adventures of the USS Voyager under now-Admiral Bryan Cash. Having survived a disastrous encounter with an alien entity known as Trelane, the Voyager arrived back in the Alpha Quadrant mostly crippled with life support failing. With no possibility of rescuing themselves, Cash did the only thing he could. He radioed for help from a nearby Vulcan ship. The Vulcans at the time were having bad relations with the Federation. They did indeed save the crew of Voyager, but at the same time seized the hulk of voyager and towed her into Vulcan space.

Returned home, a court-martial was held as was standard procedure in the loss of a starship. At first it appeared to be going fairly normal the required testimony from the crew. The reviewing of mission reports and available logs. Then in the final days the tide seemed to turn toward accusations and incrimination of Admiral cash. The body found Cash guilty of dereliction of duty and possibly collaboration with the Vulcans to acquire Voyager which unknown to most contained a highly secret weapon installed on most flag officers' ships since the war.

Having been jailed and awaiting transport to a penal facility, Cash saw his railroading for what it was and why it had happened. Someone within the Federation/Starfleet was attempting to control things to a greater degree than should be allowed, and was willing to eliminated anyone and anything to do it. His eyes opened at the possibility Bryan began to notice other things on earth that didn't seem quite right. So on one hot summer night in 2403 Admiral Cash with the help of a certain Scottish engineer escaped from the sol system aboard the USS Constitution and made there way back to the one place cash knew he would find friends.
