Cardassian Union

The Cardassian Union is and was the governing body for the Cardassian people. The Union is situated in the "northern" part of the Alpha Quadrant bordering Ferengi and Federation space. After the Dominion War the Cardassians were able to re-gather their military and begin ship building again although it wasn't enough. When the Borg came they came in force with what seemed like a plan to use Cardassian space as a base of operations in the Alpha Quadrant.

Over the course of the Borg War the Cardassians took very heavy losses until eventually contact was lost with Cardassia Prime. After Starfleet set up the Re-Exploration Initiative contact was surprisingly re-made with a rather angry and frustrated Cardassian Union.

Currently the leader of the Cardassian Union is Legate Garak who survived the war. He reinstated the Detapa Council which he leads. The Cardassians are quickly rebuilding Cardassia Prime to its pre-war state. However the Cardassian Military and Cardassian Fleet is a different story with only having about twenty ships all together. There are fleet yards in place above Cardassia Prime beginning to slowly rebuild the Military by constructing about seven ships per year. The Military also has hopes of establishing another ship yards somewhere in the Cardassia Prime system to increase production. The Union has also been getting much help recently from Dominion forces on the Dreon system outpost as far as resources go. The Cardassians have also been raiding Borg debris fields to gather what seems like a never-ending supply of resources.

Recently the Cardassian Union has launched a full protest with the Federation Council over Starfleet's annexation of the former Cardassian station, Empok Nor. However Starfleet has launched a counter protest claiming that the station has been abandoned for nearly thirty years and is no longer in Cardassian space as it has mysteriously made it's way to the area previously known as the triangle. The Cardassians eventually acted on their protests by sending two Galor's, led by Gul Ocett, out to the station for a "diplomatic meeting" just when the station was to begin moving procedures. At that time the starship Excalibur was there to give the station a send off but quickly things changed and the Excalibur had to leave the area. During that time the two Galor's went to catch up to the station which was already in a secure tug warp to it's new location. The Excalibur was able to get to the station first and in a daring and very dangerous feat quicken the stations trip by getting it into the Excalibur's quantum slipstream drive corridor. Seven hours later the station was in orbit of Betazed without a single word from the Cardassian Union since then, but it's definitely not the last we've heard from them.
