Starfleet is the exploratory, scientific, and military department of the United Federation of Planets. Currently the Fleet is divided into two entities. The First Fleet, or Earth Defence Force (EDF) is tasked with the protection of all those that now call Sol home, whilst the Fourth Fleet, or Starfleet Re-Exploratory Initiative (SRI) has the charge of re-exploring the Alpha and Beta quadrants. The Fleet's headquarters are based in San Francisco.
