Overview

Star Fighter Command is the military wing of the Federation focused on smallcraft combat and local patrol duties. Consisting of squadrons of starfighters and minor patrol boats, Star Fighter Command tends to assign its units to individual outposts, bases, and other such colonies for their defence. Fighter squadrons are sometimes also assigned to Starfleet vessels to supplement their combat capabilities, particularly for explorative and offensive duties.

SFC was originally established as a minor wing of Starfleet itself, drawing from Fleet and Marine pilots. After several years of success, it was proposed by the Executive Branch and passed through the Council to set up the organisation as an independent military wing, with the same freedom as the new Federation Mobile Infantry and Starfleet itself.

Under the command of Chief Marshall Castor Wolfram, Star Fighter Command maintains approximately two dozen squadrons, both the former twelve of the old Earth Defence Force, and assorted colonial defenders and specialist squadrons. However, most are actively engaged in defensive roles following the recent unrest caused by the Vulcan's split from the Federation.

Sol System Defence

Star Fighter Command has split the 12 former Earth Defence Force Squadrons up in to 3 wings: Alpha Wing, Beta Wing and Charlie Wing. Each Wing performs a specific role within the fleet. Alpha Wing is tasked with long-term response to the Vulcan threat; Beta Wing is tasked with boarder defence and interdiction missions; and Charlie Wing is the system's training wing.

Recently Star Fighter Command fielded the first starship squadron, designated SFCV-1, aboard the USS Enterprise (NX-1701-F)
