USS Gryphon

The USS Gryphon NCC 65550 was a Starfleet Akira Class starship in service of the Federation for over fifteen years. It's original commanding officer was Captain Elaine Mello who was killed in 2376, she transferred temporary command of the ship to then Colonel Kira Nerys to stop an alien parasite invader from using the ship to attack Trill. The ship was saved but suffered heavy damage. After Kira had been made a Starfleet captain after Bajor joined the Federation several years later Kira had the Gryphon re-assigned to further improve the defence Deep Space Nine. The ship was heavily damaged in the second Battle of Bajor.
