There have been four ships named USS Galaxy since 2356.

NCC-70637

Was the first Galaxy-class starship to be launched and was the prototype for this new class. The Galaxy began her shakedown cruise with the registry NX-70637, however this was changed in 2357 when the vessel was officially comissioned. The vessel was in service for twenty three years before it was decomissioned in 2380. The ship participated heavily in early exploration missions in the 2360s and was involved in the major battles of the Dominion War including the first battle of Chin'toka and the final assault on Cardassia Prime. The vessel's last mission was its assignment in patrolling the Romulan Neutral Zone in late 2379 where it formed part of Battle Group Omega in sector 1045. The Galaxy later tractored the Enterprise-E back to Earth following the flagship's mission to Romulus where it had successfully destroyed the Reman warbird Scimitar saving Earth from possible destruction. A year later and the Galaxy was re-assigned to patrol duties along the Cardassian Union border. While on patrol she discovered the remains of a distress beacon near to the Bajoran Badlands. Investigating further the ship soon discovered it came from a former Maquis colony base once thought destroyed by the Dominion over six years ago. The Galaxy entered the Badlands and soon the crew found the remains of a colony on a small class M planetoid. An away team went down to the planet and found Maquis survivors totalling in the hundreds. The Galaxy rescued all of the survivors however on her return trip to Deep Space Nine the ship was struck by a powerful plasma storm which resulted in the ship having to dump its warp core after both of its nacelles were ruptured and damaged heavily. The ship exited the Badlands and was taken back to DS9 from the assistances of the USS Akira and USS Bellerophon. The Galaxy's crew were all awarded for their brave efforts in rescuing the former Maquis colonists and the Galaxy herself was taking back to Utopia Plantia shipyards to be decomissioned due to the amount of damage sustained to its hull and warp engines was extensive.

NCC-70637-A

The second ship to bear the name was also a Galaxy-Class vessel and was assigned to the Fourth Fleet's Task Force 38. The ship was lost with the rest of its task force in 2388 while defending Trill from a Borg attack.

NCC-70637-B

The third ship was a Galaxy Refit-class vessel and assigned to the Allied fleet sent to destroy the Borg shipyard in Cardassian space in 2394. The Galaxy-B was heavily damaged however assisted in destroying at least four cubes and seven spheres in total. Due to the total nature of damage sustained, the ship was scrapped upon her return to Earth and her parts used to build the next Galaxy.

NCC-70637-C

With the added troubles in constructing a Galaxy-refit class vessel over the evolved standard frame design with what the war had proven to be only a small tactical advantage, the fourth vessel to bear the name was a Galaxy-class starship and upon its comission, command was given to Captain Samantha Wildman. The ship was launched from the Oakland Shipyards in 2396. In 2398, the vessel was a group leader in Strike Force Alpha the lead Allied combat wing in the Battle of Sol and was one of only a handful out of the original 1500 SF-A vessels to survive.

The ship is now assigned to the First Fleet and in early 2403 performed battle simulations with several Klingon starships in orbit of Earth.
