Golden Gate Bridge
From FEInfobase
The Golden Gate Bridge is an iconic American structure located in San Francisco, first constructed in the nineteenth century. Coloured a distinctive red, it is a two-tower suspension bridge, spanning the gulf between South Marin and the Presidio, west of the city's centre. Originally designed for horse carriages, it has since borne motor cars and now carries a portion of the Trans Francisco tube network.
Rebuilding and Refitting
Having stood for five hundred years now, the bridge has undergone a number of overhauls and refits. In the early twenty-first century, a complete overhaul was completed, preparing the bridge for an impending Earthquake, the strength of which could not have been faced up to by the original structure. Alongside increasing the structure's strength, the key brief of the project was to make it identical to the first, and many people were unaware of the project's scope upon its completion.
In the 2370s, it was repaired following the reciept of heavy damage as a result of a Breen attack on Earth, as the race joined the Dominion in the war.
It was recently repaired following damage sustained during the Battle of Sol, when a group of Borg tactical cubes began attacking the city.
Despite these attacks, because the bridge has remained standing for the most part, it has been held up by the media as a mark of Human endurance, through all hardships.
