Vulcans
From FEInfobase
Vulcans originate from the planet Vulcan in the Beta Quadrant. The civilisation is humanoid based centred on the teachings of Surak (the father of Vulcan philosophy). Surak introduced his fellow Vulcans to the philosophical and pacifist ideals of logical thinking and to repress the Vulcan people’s volatile and destructive emotions. Vulcans are one of the founding members of the United Federation of Planets and become one the most important sentient beings in exploration and peaceful contacts in the 22nd century. This continued well in to the 24th Century and like many others races in the Federation the Vulcans supported numerous colonies across the Alpha and Beta Quadrants.
Vulcans are also the progenitors of the Romulans, who opposed the teachings of Surak and fled the homeworld many centuries ago.
Come the beginning of the 25th Century and the end of the Borg War the Vulcan society had survived the horrendous conflict that had plagued the Federation for twenty years. The homeworld itself had been saved from its first and ever invasion in centuries by the USS Republic. During the war and through to the post war conditions the Vulcan people were forced to constantly fight the Remnants of the Borg. Many Vulcans achieved more of a balance with their emotions. It is only speculated as to why this occurred. Perhaps it was a lack of time to meditate, or maybe they logically found emotions to have a purpose. Those who found the balance were those in the military service of defending the planet, most notable those serving the Vulcan High Command. However a majority of the civilian population maintained the old ways of pure logic and repression of emotions in their lives.
The Vulcan government was run by the Vulcan High Command during the Borg War and the High Command remained in command. Many civilians feared that with the military in charge the planet would return to how it was during the 22nd Century by having a policy of a more aggressive and interventionist to "outsiders". This fear was met in the beginning of 2403 which led to a brief time of conflict between the Federation and Vulcan. The Vulcans soon entered a state of isolation as another reformation went underway in Vulcan society. Power to civilian leaders was returned and the people no longer feared a long period of time under military rule. However due to the aggressive moves towards the Federation and most notable Earth relations between the Vulcans and the Federation became quite low With Vulcan officially leaving federation membership in early 2404.
