Droj served well in Engineering and found it to be a continually rewarding experience. When travelling at high warp, one day, there was an anti-matter imbalance in the engines. As a result the ship could not drop out of warp without causing a core breach. Droj helped design a warp field flux that caused the anti-matter controls to unlock and regain balance. For this work, which helped save the ship, he was promoted to [[Lieutenant (Junior Grade)]] and made Warp Field specialist.

Biographical history

Early life

Nadroj, or Droj as he is known to his friends, was born into a political family on the Bolian homeworld, Bolarus IX. His mother was a diplomat, eventually becoming the Bolian ambassador to the Federation Council. His father was a representative in the Unified Parliament of Bolarus. His parents often encouraged him to follow in their footsteps and enter the political field, he, however, had an interest in a different type of public service.

Droj spent his teen years on Earth living with his mother while she was serving as the Bolian ambassador. He went to school in Paris where he picked up the French language and made many friends, including his closest friend, Nadine Basques. Droj travelled Earth extensively and considers it his second home. In particular he took a keen interest in French culture, some of which he now emulates.

From a young age Nadroj had wanted to join Starfleet. As soon as he was of age he applied and was accepted to the Academy. His friend Nadine applied as well. While at the Academy they both studied with a major in History. Droj took a double-minor in Security and Warp Theory –– an odd combination but one he enjoyed.

His friendship with Nadine conitued to grow, this eventually turned into a romantic involvement. Upon graduation they were posted to different ships and ended the romantic side of their relationship on the best of terms.

Early career

His first posting was to the USS Ambassador, where he served as the Historical Officer. A position he found boring as his specialty rarely called him to duty and he spent much of his time in his office doing useless research, not participating in the day to day exploring of space. He found this experience to be nothing like he expected and considered withdrawing from Starfleet as soon as his first term of service was up.

This was an experience which he shared with his close friend Nadine Basques. They spoke of their plans to leave the Fleet after their three year term of service. They planned to travel and study history together, the passion which consumed them both more than anything else. In the meantime Droj saw one of the ship's counsellor's, then Ensign, Jakayla Neuris, who he developed a fast friendship with. She discouraged him from leaving the fleet and recommended a transfer. One day while eating lunch in the officers lounge he was joined by the ship’s Chief Engineer who was a friend of a friend and he had met several times in the past. Droj took Jakayla's advice and Droj mentioned his background in Warp Theory and told him of an interest in transfering engineering. The Engineer was excited with the idea and the made the request for a transfer with the XO.

Droj made the switch and found himself enjoying Starfleet as he thought he would as a boy. He avoided telling Nadine of the transfer and when the three years were up he was forced to break the news to her -- he was renewing his tour of duty. Nadine was heart broken, especially when she learned Droj had made this determnation months before he told her. Their relationship suffered considerably and did not recover for a number of years.

For this work, which helped save the ship, he was promoted to Lieutenant (Junior Grade) and made Warp Field specialist.

Although he was enjoying his time on the Ambassador there was little room for advancement as the ship had a fine crew firmly in the senior positions. Droj put his name in to the pool for transfer to new ships and was very pleased to be assigned the post of Chief Engineer on the USS Aralius.

He served this position with much excitement and enthusiasm. He was soon promoted to the rank of Lieutenant after his first mission aboard the Aralius.

USS Cochrane

Captain Nadroj Neirbo aboard the USS Cochrane in 2380.

Shortly thereafter he was approached by Starfleet to take command of the USS Cochrane in Task Force 48. He accepted and was promoted to Lieutenant Commander. He was promoted to Commander after assembling a crew for the Cochrane as it was sent on its first mission.

For good service heading up a task group of three ships at Raeya he was promoted to Captain and made Executive Officer of Task Group 2 in Task Force 48.

Droj continued to make his way up the ranks, being named Commanding Officer of Task Group 2 not long after. The Cochrane continued on her voyages but after a little more than a year as a ship CO he was made Commanding Officer of the new Penumbra Fleet Yards. Droj was pleased to be able to keep the Cochrane attached to Penumbra .

Penumbra Fleet Yards and War!

Much of Droj's first two years on XFY were consumed with 'domestic' issues. The planet below had been strip mined for dilithium during the Dominion War and as a result a lot of animosty towards the Federation had developed and a separtist movement flourished. Penumbra Fleet Yards was constructed in the area in part to quell those feelings and show the Federation presence could be positive by boosting trade and the Trixian economy which had previously relied mostly on dilithium.

Droj was selected as CO in large part thanks to his affable personality and the fact that there was a significant Bolian population on Trixia. Under his watch, mainstream separtist movements lost strength, but fringe groups emerged including the isolationist-terrorist group True Path that at one point captured Droj and replaced him with a double aboard Penumbra. Their plot was to have the doppleganger order the assination of the Trixian chancellor but, fortunately, the Penumbra crew was able to determine that an imposter was aboard before any irrepairable damage could be done.

Rear Admiral Nadroj Neirbo in 2389.

In 2382, the Federation-wide red alert due to the Borg invasion of the Beta Quadrant took effect on Penumbra. Massive upgrades to the station defences and construction of fighters was undertaken but Penumbra did not see action for many years. Droj, still in nominal command of Penumbra, took all operable ships to join the rest of Task Force 48 in attacking the Borg at Khitomer in 2385. The offensive was not successful but the Cochrane managed to retreat relatively unscathed. In the ensuing years, Droj ferried back and forth between Penumbra and the battlefronts aboard the Cochrane until the ship was destroyed in 2391 in the successful attack on the Borg shipyards back at Khitomer. Droj was rescued by some retreating vessels but sustained severe injuries and had to have one leg amputated. He retired from Starfleet with the rank of Rear Admiral.

Federation politics

The Bolian homeworld, Bolarus IX, had been evacuated in 2386 as the Borg made their way towards Romulan space. In 2388, Droj's mother Jawnd Neirbo, the former Bolian representative on the Federation Council, was chosen to resume her former role.

When Droj recovered from his injury and was unfit to return to active service, he joined his mother's office as her Chief of Staff in early 2392. His mother passed away in 2397 and Droj was elected to replace her as the Bolian representative on the council. After the declaration of victory in 2400, Droj was an early proponent of the Starfleet Re-exploration Initiative, however he soon became a skeptic.

Though he supported re-exploration, he felt it should be done in spurts. A group of systems surrounding core territory should be re-explored, built up and then, after a period of years, another group of systems should be explored. Under this model, it would be decades before the Bolarus system was re-explored and, as a result, Droj did not seek re-election to the Council in 2403 knowing he would almost certainly be defeated.

As of mid-2405, Droj was considering a last minute bid for Federation President on the hopes that he could sneak up the middle in a four way race.

Personality profile

All and all a fairly carefree guy. Enjoys socializing and tries to develop friendships with his subordinates, even if they aren't the most personable. He doesn't care for formalities but at the same time can be fairly strict with the chain of command. For instance, he would grant almost any request matter-of-factly but would be very annoyed if it was done without having first been asked.

Traditionally he preferred to be diplomatic and go by the book, as he has a high regard for the ideals of the Federation. However, if pressed he quickly turned, doing whatever it takes to safeguard his ship, station or the Federation. During the war, his viewpoint changed dramatically and he became a hardened "warrior". He would more passionately believe in the proverb "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one" than most Vulcans.

Is a big fan of any card game, especially the Scottish favourite, forty-fives. Has a croissant and orange juice almost religiously for breakfast, although he alternates tea for the orange juice when stressed. When in the service he loathed the belt on his flag officer's uniform. As a result, he almost always wears his casual uniform with vest to avoid it.
