Overview
SFHQ is located at the old Fort Baker site North of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. The main building of Starfleet Command has changed very little in design since its original conception in the mid 22nd century despite numerous developments and rebuilds. Currently, the facility has largely been repaired following damage sustained during the Battle of Sol however many of the repairs are merely functional with little regards to aesthetics meaning that the facility has lost much of the beauty that was previously associated with it.
Though the immense nature of Starfleet makes it near impossible for the entire command structure to be based in one place, the facility houses the Fleet CinC, Fleet Admiral Dan Taylor and his second in command, Admiral Tom Paris as well as their support staff and senior departmental flag officers. The facility is also home to the upper administrative levels of Starfleet Operations.
Facility Layout
Along the Southern shore, the Command restaurant is located next to a briefing hall and the Admirals' lounge. A long building travelling North from the shore houses the department commanders whilst opposing this, the main building plays home to the senior members of the Admiralty and their staff. In between the two, a garden with a central flower display of the Command emblem sits.
To the East of this grouping, a small shuttlebay is located. Though capable of housing up to five runabouts, it plays home to none and is merely used as a dropping off point for senior admiralty members.
Operations Building
The Eastern of the two main buildings, the Operations Building plays home to the Director of the department, his senior staff and the highest levels of the department. The building contains a number of offices and open 'bullpen' office environments. The building has a number of replicators and an internal communications grouping of relays, however these are frequently inactive and undergoing repairs. The styling of the interior is a tradiotional Fleet look, with warm woods accompanied by a series of deep reds and magentas, though many tables feature the typical starship style of polished black surface. Doors are all automatic and there are a collection of double doors throughout, though these are generally locked open due to the busy movement of people across the floor. The doors are made of treated wood and hyperglass which can contain noise and be rendered opaque at the touch of a button.
The top floor of the building plays home to the Director and his support staff, whilst the second down houses the senior staff of the department. The layout of this floor is based primarily around an elongated central conference room, which houses a long Tellarite-made table built of Hiu (prn. Hwee) wood - similar in strength to oak but with a richer natural colouring and longer life. The majority of space on the floor is taken up by the staffers bullpen, though there are also a collection of individual offices and a small staff room which contains the only continual source of coffee on the floor and a noisy heating generator - a temporary installation until the building's central heating circuits are repaired. The generator has been in place for eleven months.
The first floor contains a large lobby, a number of small waiting rooms and a check-in desk and security station (visitors are required to sign in and out upon entering and leaving the building). The floor of the lobby is white marble, though not as regularly cleaned as that in the opposing campus building. In the centre of the floor, the Starfleet Command emblem is displayed.
Press Secretary's Office
Smaller and practical than many assume, many of the room's features have become tired and worn over time. Under the use of Press Secretary Peter Ingram, there is a battered leather couch and the walls are needing fresh paint. The desk is the only object of real pride in the room. Made of Oak trees, it is neither intricately detailed nor holding of a long and rich history. It is however, sturdy and useful. Along one wall is a bookcase made out of the same Oak as the desk; in each alcove sit the pictures, plaques and awards that define Ingram's career so far. The opposite wall to Ingram's desk is a visual feed screen used both for communication and viewing news feeds.
The Great Auditorium
The Great Auditorium is a circular shaped building at Starfleet Command Headquarters (not to be mixed with the cafeteria) which is used to host various diplomatic or award ceremonies. With a dome window on the ceiling showing the night sky filled with the stars of the Milky Way galaxy. At one end of the auditorium was a large staging area with a podium in the middle. There were only a few exits in the room and most of them took you out on to the balcony that went around the entire perimeter of the hall. On the walls were either paintings of famous Starfleet officers or starships. The Great Auditorium was used for the first time since the end of the Borg War in 2403 during an award ceremony led by Admiral Paris (DS1 & ENT-F: "A Good Day To Arise").
