Babel is a class M world that was used by the Federation for peace conferences.It currently sits uninhabited and used only as a stopping off point for ships headed into the deep outer federation. After the incident between the USS Enterprise and the Vulcan High Command in early 2403, Federation Ambassadors met with Vulcan delegates on Babel to discuss Federation-Vulcan relations. However the meeting didn't go too well which lead to the Vulcans departing from the meeting. Admiral Paris informed Fleet Captain Marshall-Bennet of the meeting's status when the Vulcan High Command deployed several battle oriented crusiers near to Andoria (DS1: "Along The Stream").
Babel serves as one of a handful of key core planets in the modern Federation.
