There have been two ships named USS Mikhail Kalashnikov since 2379. Both ships have recieved the nickname of MK their crews. The vessel was named after a famous people from Earth's past who was a Russian weapon designer during the late twentieth century during an era called the "Cold War". The original Mikhail Kalashnikov was a Defiant Class ship assigned to the Fourth Fleet.
