Konchek IV

Konchek IV is a Bajoran colony world settled after contact was lost between Bajor and the rest of the Alpha Quadrant in the Borg War. A harsh world with a habitable, but cold and unforgiving climate, it was not considered worthy of colonising until overcrowding and a lack of resources in the war changed civilisation's parameters for planets which were appropriate as colony worlds.

It is one of the most distant of Bajoran colonies, and has a regular, but small Starfleet presence for its protection as it is technically a border world for the Federation.

In late January of 2410, Konchek IV was attacked by several vessels identified to be Romulan in origin. The attack was repelled, though due to the damage taken and resources stolen, as a raid it was technically successful. It was unconfirmed if the attacking ships acted on behalf of the Romulan Star Empire, or if they were simply stolen, scavenged, or purchased Romulan starships.

Starfleet activity in the region has heightened, though after the USS Archer was recalled to Earth, the Bajoran sector Starfleet defence has received no reinforcements from the Core World to augment this defence. Despite protestations from Vice-Admiral Kira and the Bajoran government, the attack on Konchek IV is currently assumed by Starfleet Command to be an attack by pirates.

Nevertheless, Konchek IV is receiving considerably more traffic after the attack, both to aid in the rebuilding and recovery work, and as a hub for local border defence.
