Terra Nova

Terra Nova colony was originally settled in the late twenty first century and was the first long range human colony established. Terra Nova is a far different world to Earth; in Latin it meant new found land. The original human colony that had settled on the planet had created a diverse history and culture since the late twenty first century. The original settlers’ homes had been inflicted by radioactive meteor strike which forced survivors to take refuge underground, it wasn’t until the twenty second century that Earth had re-established contact with the colony and found out what happened to it and its people. Thanks to the efforts made by Captain Jonathan Archer and his crew of the Enterprise NX-01 the people of the colony, who had called themselves Novans had been saved from further toxic poisoning. Terra Nova continued to flourish for centuries becoming one of Earth’s most celebrated first successful deep space colonies. It became a thriving member of the Federation. The Novans are peaceful people. Conestoga City is the capital city for the world which is named after the ship which transported the founding settlers in 2078.

Status in 2400

It had only been with the up rise of the Borg War had the Federation Council agreed with the Terra Nova Government to relocate the colonies population to Earth for protection. A massive joint Civilian-Starfleet operation had been undertaken for the relocation program to take place. In 2402 civilian freighters had returned to the planet and the planet was re-populated. Later on in the year the USS Vendetta was sent to help resolve an issue with the Romulans who made home on the planet. They wanted to make a claim to the planet in the name of the Romulan Star Empire, which the Federation wouldn’t allow. Captain Jessica Galagher mediated the situation between the Terra Nova Government and the Romulans, which allowed for the Romulans to place a military presence in the system and they would be responsible for the defence of the system. Only recently had many Klingons relocated from Earth to Terra Nova. The world was still enriched with natural resources and certainly natural beauty. It hadn’t been ravaged by the Borg at all. There was only one main city in the south eastern continent, while other smaller settlements had been established around the world in various locations.

In 2404 the crew of the USS Skedans was forced to escape to the planet after the destruction of their ship by unknown attackers. Starfleet sent the USS Fearless to provide aide to the crew and colony (FEA: "Unrest in Paradise City").

The destruction of the Skedans in such a low orbit of the planet caused widespread devastation and destruction to the planets biosphere.The ozone layer that protected the planet so completely in the past had been mostly stripped away allowing the devastating power of the systems sun to wreak havok on the planet.The planet is dying and appears to be the victim of plot by forces unknown.
