Personal Background

Early Years

She was born in Skidegate, on Earth in 2366 and born of Devon Galagher and Vulcan minister Shar'ra, Jessica was expected to be a lot of things, one of them being an engineer like her family. So she like most of her family did spend several hours in the engineering department of their family ship yards on Haida Gwaii.

Jessica's mother being named ironically the same name as her Aunt Sharra Jameson was half Vulcan and half Haida so it was not surprising that the union between Galagher and Shar'ra would occur. Jessica was much like her father in her strong firm hold on command situation or silent discipline. There was more Vulcan in her manner then her other siblings which total seven.

Jessica has taken every aspect in training including the engineering and flight/navigations. She has also taken the robes of the Vulcan monk hood in her early years, but changed her mind after awhile as she could not stand being closed off to the universe and its mysteries.

Before 2400

At the age of 22 she joined Starfleet to continue her training as an engineer or a flight ops officer. It was suggested to her to try to do the challenge tests as well like the rest of the Galagher clan. It was expected that she would pass with flying colours. She passed all right but not with flying colours. This was a mild shock to her family, especially her father.

She then was transferred to command academy were she took on the vigorous training of command and emergency situations.

Her skills as a commander came into play one day when her class was out on an outing and their ship ran into some enemy attacks. She took command of the situation immediately as her instructor and CO was killed in the attack and the other students were left clueless as to what to do or where to injured to be of any help.

Jessica managed to get the ship active enough to have some sort of defence as they limped back to earth.

Starfleet was impressed with her skills they graduated her early from the commanding officer’s academy and sent her on her first command. The USS Shark, a Saber Class vessel tasked with the duties of training members of Red Squad from Starfleet Academy. The Shark was dry docked do to some sever mechanical and structural faults as yet to be found. Jessica was later assigned as the chief flight control officer on board the USS Thundercloud, a Prometheus Class. The vessel was part of some of the heaviest fighting in the Borg War and suffered mass casualties because of its involvement. In one of its mission the ship was heavily damaged and the captain was killed. Jessica had to assume command of the Thundercloud and lead her crew to victory over the destruction of a Borg Sphere. Starfleet was impressed at her abilities to command and lead others and gave her the Thundercloud even at a young age. Starfleet didn’t have many other officers to spare due to the shortage of man power. However the Thundercloud meet its fate when it was part of a task force sent to engage a Borg Cube near to the Terra Nova colony. Terra Nova will become a constant place for Jessica as later on in her career she would make many links with the population’s government. The Thundercloud’s crew were forced to abandon ship after it received heavy damage to its warp engines from repeated fire from the Cube. Jessica ordered the ship to ram the vessel, was about to go down with the ship when the USS Skedans arrived, and beamed her off as the Thundercloud finally took out the Cube. The Skedans was her father’s vessel, where she and those survivors of the Thundercloud were assigned to. The Skedans was an interesting assignment for Jessica as she tangled with the prospect of having to follow her father’s every command. It was also on the Skedans where she met one Max Duncan who was temporarily on the vessel as a counsellor. The two become quite close and during a rescue away mission Jessica defied her father’s orders to save Max from dying on a damaged Borg sphere. She believed the two had made a connection not just physically but mentally through her Vulcan and Betazoid telepathic heritages. Their romance was short as Max was quickly re-assigned to another assignment. After her father’s re-assignment to Starfleet Command Headquarters in 2395 Jessica was finally giving her fourth officer’s pip and made captain of the Skedans. She commanded the Galaxy Refit Class vessel well in to the Battle of Sol. The Skedans crew survived the fight only after the ship was forced to separate from the stardrive section in the saucer section. Because of her actions in saving her crew and taking out so many enemy vessels Starfleet assigned Jessica her next command, the Nebula Class starship USS Vendetta in 2400.

After 2400

During her time as commanding officer of the Vendetta, Jessica became quite popular among those on Earth because of the ship’s dealings with the new Starfleet Re-Exploration Initiative. The Vendetta was the third ship to leave Sol and re-established contact with the Bynars, the Rigelian, the Coridans, the Mazarites, the Axanar, the Vissians The ship also aided in re-populating Terra Nova, stopping an epidemic from breaking out on Denobula, and rescued a convoy of Tandarans from Orion pirates. For her actions Jessica was awarded on a number of occasions. She served the Re-Exploration Initiativefor sometime and served as the group's executive officer. In 2403 she was promoted to the rank of commodore by Admiral Judith Marshall-Bennet and assigned as deputy director of Starfleet Re-Development Operations. She was given command of a new ship after the Vendetta suffered heavy computer system failures due to unusual virus. Her new ship was a Sovereign Class vessel and given the name USS Skedans. One of the ship’s first mission was to Bajor to escort a delegation to Deep Space One in preparation for the planet’s re-admission in to the Federation (DS1: “A Good Day To Arise?). The USS Skedans was partially assigned as a defence ship to Bajor for several months while it worked on helping Bajor bring its new orbital and planetary defence grid operational. On its way home in 2404 the Skedans suffered from an attack by Orion pirates. The ship was able to track the Orion ships back to their base of operations, destroy their forces and their bases. The commodore took this decision after Starfleet Intelligence informed her they were working on behalf of the Orion Syndicate. However unknown to the crew of the Skedans the ship was infected by the same computer problems that the Vendetta encountered two years before. Because the Skedans was an Sovereign class ship which had been salvaged from a graveyard near to Alpha Centauri it’s computer systems weren’t fully protected from the virus. The virus spread itself in to engine control and the vessel lost containment of its antimatter/matter reaction chamber. Galagher gave the order to abandon ship and watched from an escape pod as the ship exploded. A later investigation found the Orions had been the ones to infect both the Vendetta and Skedans with the computer virus. Her own escape pod was rescued by Outpost 2, while the rest of her crew landed on Terra Nova. Jessica contacted Admiral Bennet who was able to convince Admiral Paris to give Galagher her old command of the Vendetta back when she returned to Earth (FEA: "A Call To Duty").
