Kentra Donrav

Kentra Donrav was a joined Trill woman, who served as Chief Diplomatic Officer to Deep Space One for two years. She was responsible for opening a diplomatic dialogue with the Son'a refugees on Ba'ku in 2401.

Kentra had made her family very proud, by becoming the first of her family to ever be joined with a symbiot at the age of 15. After joining she grew restless living on the trill homeworld and wanted to explore the universe. That she decided to do it through Starfleet shocked her family, who belong to a trill religious sect which holds beliefs similar to that of human Quakers. They reject all violence, and even the act of wearing any sort of uniform is looked down upon. The Donrav symbiot has been around in different hosts since for nearly two thousand years, and along with its hosts has been a diplomat, a space pirate and a scientist. Donrav's previous host Denax was a Federation diplomat serving in the Klingon Empire, where he married Kalitta Korat, a Klingon woman and had one son.

Cut off from all contact with her family at the age of 16 Kentra journeyed to Earth, catching rides with freighters from various races. On Earth she was initially denied entry into Starfleet Academy, and spent a year working as a translator at the Federation offices before she was finally accepted. She first joined the USS Laffey as Chief Communications Officer, and rose through the ranks from there, later transferring into Starfleet's diplomatic department.

During a mission to retrieve members of the Project Harmony group she was part of the away team sent down to Vulcan. During this time her relationship with First Officer Commander T'Val improved and the two became close friends. Shortly after this mission she developed a romantic relationship with Chief Security & Tactical Officer Lieutenant Joseph Pike.

She was seriously injuried in 2403 while on an away mission on Andoria during the Enterprise's mission Along The Stream with Fleet Captain Zack Marshall-Bennet. When taken back to the USS Enterprise (NX-1701-F) her wounds were too critical to be healed and she later died in the flagship's sickbay. The Donrav symbiontwas transferred to the Trill science officer on board the USS Warhawk, Ensign Megeen Donrav.

Kentra's body was taken back to Earth via the USS Miranda. She died without having spoken to her family since her joining Starfleet decades earlier. During her time on the USS Laffey Kentra had a brief relationship with William Hume the ship's Romulan Chief of Security. She gave birth to Denona Hume, a Romulan / Trill hybrid, who because both William Hume and Kentra where focused on their Starfleet careers was raised by William Hume's parents on Earth.
