Career

2372-2379

In 2372 a year on after the destruction of the Enterprise-D, Picard is offered the captaincy of newly commissioned Sovereign class USS Enterprise NCC 1701 – E.

He assumed direct command of Starfleet forces in 2373 to defeat the second Borg invasion of the United Federation of Planets. He was forced to take the Enterprise-E back to 2063 to prevent the Borg from interfering with the development and founding of the Federation from stopping First Contact between Humanity and Vulcans.

Two years later Picard prevents the relocation of the Ba’ku inhabitants by Admiral Matthew Dougherty (who insisted he was working on orders from the Federation Council) and the Son’a. He openly defies orders from the admiral and leads a small away team to save the Ba’ku people, while the Enterprise-E makes the relocation public knowledge.

A few months later Picard took the Enterprise-E in to combat during the Dominion War and lead a task force of Starfleet ships in liberating Betazed from Dominion forces. With support and aid from the Betazoid resistance movement the Federation were successful in re-claiming freedom for the planet.

Four years later Picard led the Enterprise-E on a diplomatic mission to Romulus to meet with their new Predator, Shinzon. Shinzon was a younger clone of Picard developed by the Romulans who were going to use him to infiltrate Starfleet. Shinzon had led a coupe d'etat with support from the [Remans]] of the Romulan Senate by killing the senate members using a Thalaron radiation based weapon, he was also going to use one to destroy Earth. However after it was made clear the peace talks were just a ruse to get Picard to Romulus. The Enterprise-E with aid from two Romulan Valdore Class warbirds successfully engaged and destroyed Shinzon’s Reman warbird the Scimitar.

2379-2382

Picard remained captain of the Enterprise-E for another three years. These three brief years the ship was assigned to deep space assignments in the Beta Quadrant. Come the end of 2381 Picard was offered a position at Starfleet Command to join Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway as she travelled the Federation talking with world leaders and attempting to persuade them from leaving the Federation. Picard took the position and was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral. Command of the Enterprise-E was transferred to his executive officer, Commander Wesley Crusher on the 22nd January 2382. The Enterprise-E dropped off its former commanding officer on his first mission with Janeway as they met with Grazerite delegates to discuss Grazer’s position in the Federation.

2383-2388

Picard’s work as an admiral on keeping and obtaining new members of the Federation with Janeway was a successfully endeavour. However the two were soon recalled to Earth when Starfleet Intelligence announced the return of the Borg and their attack against the Krazzle homeworld Krazz.

The two were soon instrumental in developing defensive strategies and tactics in dealing with the Borg threat. Picard was later promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral and given command of preparing Starfleet defences in the Inner Core Territory of the Federation. In 2385 Picard was promoted again to Admiral and assigned as mission advisor to his old ship the Enterprise-E when it led re-enforcements to the newest member in the Federation, the Klingon Empire, specifically Qo’nos.

For three years Picard advised in creating better defences for the Klingon homeworld before he was recalled to Earth by Fleet Admiral Kathryn Janeway. The Enterprise-E transported him to the USS Pegasus NCC 1702-B who returned him to Starfleet Command Headquarters.

2388-2398

Picard resided on Earth as he continued his service to the Federation in working with the newly appointed Starfleet Commander In Chief, Kathryn Janeway. Janeway had made Picard her Second in Command (although felt he would be best suited for the position then her). For a decade the two worked close in leading the Federation and its allies in the Borg War.

On December 23rd 2398, Janeway had decided to step down as Commander In Chief and assume a more practical leadership role when she took command of her first ship, Voyager. Picard was made acting commander in chief as he took lead of all forces from Earth. The Borg armada invaded Sol and was met by the combined Federation Alliance fleet. The Battle of Sol was a major victory for the Federation but resulted in Janeway being listed as presumed killed in action.

2398-2403

President Spock officially promoted Picard to the rank of Fleet Admiral and fully instated him as Starfleet’s Commander In Chief.
